Pirates unite :3

Short intro:
Germany has parlaments for every region, 16 total. And of course the national one.
In current elections, the Pirate Party managed to get 5+% of the votes in one of the regional elections. A party needs 5% to have their politicans granted access to parlament.

Pirate party is a group dedicated to fighting stuff like Acta or similar attempts to control the internet in “anti-freedome”ish ways.

I’m highly amused by them actually getting seats and as well nearly kicking one of the old 5 (usually the only ones getting seats (because of the 5% line)) partys out :3

If the technic pack asked for your permission, would you give it to them now?

    • Alblaka says:

They did, and it’s granted like ~2 months now.
At least the original technic pack, there are countless similar ones and may not all of them did ask.

here in Australia we have “the Australian Sex Party” who got just over 5% of the vote in Victoria and Queensland last election… and I think 2.5% in the federal election… I don’t know how that compares to pirates, but I thought it was worth a mention…

Pirates. Does that mean that they will make giant wooden ship statues with skull and crossed bones flags everywhere?

      It’s referring to “Online Pirates”.
The Pirate Parts was founded by some REALLY open-minded people, trying to persuade politicans into permitting the unlimited redistribution of digital arts for free > Free downloads of any music or video you want.
Now it’s sort of a “Free Internet for everyone!” movement, pronouncing freedome and democratic rights as their main concept.

The recent ACTA trouble gave them another large popularity boost, probably the reason they’re in parlament now.

I once read on Wikipedia that Germany is the country with biggest choice of the Pirate Party on national elections at a whopping 2.0% on the 2009 elections.
