Anti-P2P

I guess most people already noticed some nukes were dropped all across IndustrialRage. Luckyly, killerbeez is a fan of backups thus barely something should be lost.

Apparently a few guys strongly disliking the idea of having a Pay2Play server are responsible for this and even are willingly to pay the entry fee to ruin gameplay on these servers, f.e. IR.

Guess they hate IC as well, because such stuff forces me to spend time on developing anti-griefer tools instead of actual IC content…

Anyways, just a matter of time before we get their account nicks, causing them to get banned for most IC servers, due to Feanturis AGC thingy.

How about a general warning when a nuke is set off?
It would be text, kinda like this: [player] set of a nuke! [x,y,z], and while your at it, you could also make it like this: [player] set of a nuke! [x,y,z] [allow?], then an admin would need to type a clearance first.
Maybe this is a bit intrusive into gameplay, but at least it will remove the anonymity.

Good luck have fun Al 🙂

  2. Sirbrandino says:

As a server owner, I can feel the pain. That’s awful guys! You would think a ptp game would be safe.

    • Union says:

Ironically, it’s more vulnerable because people see it as an open target for aggression against an unliked and unpopular policy…

  3. Nerox says:

Actually, with Worldguard and similar security plugins (bukkit ones I think) I dont see why you should develop a security tool. Also, simply disabling nukes in the serverconfig would do it too, wouldn’t it?

    • Max-o-l says:

This would also disable the nuclear-generators.

    • Alblaka says:

Adding the option to disable nukes at all is one of the things we’ve coded for the next release.

    • Maeyanie says:

There’s also a lot of logging plugins for Bukkit… though I don’t think muCkk has implemented any of the proper events for them to function. Maybe I should pick my port back out of the archives where I left it after he beat me to release… 😉

      • Landon says:

        Maeyanie, PLEASE port IC yourself.

No offense to muCkk, but I feel as though you are a much more qualified coder.

      • muCkk says:

The problem is that I know how to code things for Bukkit, but not for the vanilla server. I didn’t know that the last ports supported the Bukkit events. I’ll check out how to do this.

    Sry to hear!
However, I cant stress out often enough that MC multiplayer modding should be done with bukkit in mind to utilize the many plugins for administration and securtiy instead of reinventing the wheel in every vanilla mod again.
Granted, most bukkit plugins dont use client mods but who cares when a developer has the power to break out of the current small cage of possibilities? Players want more and are willing to go through the hassle of client-modding to get more!
And with the upcomming developments of the Spout Project the gap between client mods and server mods will sooner or later be bridged in a way that makes it void to ever manipulate the client files again! This development is already overdue and the community needs this to break the cage that restricts the creativity that lead to such beautiful mods like IC/IC² and a lot of others.
Its time to see where the future of MC modding leads us and react accordingly!
    cheers!

  5. Squirrel says:

That’s just horrible and sad to do … first you mine all the stuff… blow a server up were you payed for then leave…

    Love IC2!

  6. Grave Robber says:

multiplayer IC2 is already dependent on forge and modloadermp, it shouldn’t be made into a bukkit plugin as well, that will make it even harder for amateur server hosts like myself to utilize the mod. Let someone else recode it for bukkit, Alblaka should focus on the mod itself and not porting it to different formats, and also, we already have to wait for forge and modloadermp to update to new versions each minecraft update, do you really want to wait on a possible longer update to the bukkit plugin?

    • Alblaka says:

      Exactly this.

There are, if i didn’t miss one, 3 different people working on Bukkit ports. Or at least they asked for my permission to port IC² to Bukkit.
But we won’t mess into bukkit ourselfes and instead focus on creating an awesome mod instead. :3

      • artist says:

Sorry, but this sounds like always the same excuse to me – I dont know it, I wont eat it!
Regarding your blog entry you also see that you have to invest extra time to make things more secure! Sure, it might need a short while till a transfer is done, but from that on things would run much smoother! Also it would be much easier to use the mod for server owners and it can reach a much broader audience. Sticking to blinkers wont help progression.

      • muCkk says:

        Yeah me for example ;).
If someone wants to place IC² on Bukkit get it here

  7. The Walking Glitch says:

I don’t see why anyone would ever pay a fee to grief, unless they have a lot of money, those people are retarded. I would never pay a fee.

    • Alblaka says:

10 € isn’t exactly much, except you’re really poor or don’t have a job yet.
And if you truly hate someone and want to ruin there fun whilst thinking noone will catch you, 10 € isn’t exactly a high price i assume… Hell, you gotta pay up to 15€ for a single ride on a modern rollercoaster, and that’s merely a minute of fun >.>

Anyways, they won’t remain bugging IC servers for long, i promise :3

      • artist says:

        Fully agreed with Ablaka!
Sorry, buts outstandingly ignorant to be blindly against pay2play servers – somehow servers have to be financed and also there is a lot of time invested to administrate them.
Fighting against something youre not interested in anyway is just small-minded!
You can stay away from those servers and let it to those who care, cos your opinion is pointless and wont change anything, right? But some folks always have to vent their personal anger into the net… I somehow feel sorry.. =/

        • Rabblerouser says:

I wouldn’t say it’s small-minded. People probably don’t want it to spread. Of course I say that as if simple arguing/voicing opinions can be seen as “fighting” against an idea they’re not interested in. Paying to grief is even dumber, but it goes to show some griefers just can’t be deterred. I’ve seen griefers buy extra accounts to troll servers.

I would like to know how everyone KNOWS it’s because of the fee, though. Most griefers have no motive.

          • Alblaka says:

Afaik killerbeez was quite sure about this, can’t exactly tell why though.
He talked about getting Emails threatening him to ruin the server if he doesn’t make it Free2Play, previously, though. (and of course a lot of other hatemails)

      • Union says:

a la Goonswarm and their ability to throw tons of money on a ‘project’?

  8. Rgamer says:

I am reaaaaally liking the AGC, and I don’t think I’ll play on any servers that are not part of it.

  9. Ferrelas says:

Would this qualify as one of the first major terrorist attacks of minecraft? ;P
