SMP, Updates, 1.8

Ok, let’s sum up everything relevant for now:

I’ve checked my time tables again. As already stated, a massiv 2-week course for software engineering is going to start this monday, as well as a media science exam. Thus i won’t have much time for coding at all within the next 3 weeks. Afterwards, however, i will have 1 month of free time again, until regular study courses start on 1.10.2011

On the other hand, Player and Drashian got into ICยฒ modding extremely well. They are currently bugfixing/enhanching ICยฒ code. Probably they will manage to release the SMP version without me doing much, but as i’m not them, i cannot give any real ETA. If i would be by myself, ETA would be 4-5 weeks. Bad timing, i know.

Porting to 1.8 is currently not on the priority list. First we want to get a stable SMP running, exspecially as
– porting to an unstable minecraft release is a waste of time
– porting without all prequesite mods being updates isn’t possible.

PS: As well, i would like to remind any sort of questions for ETA dates in comments/forum get removes&banned instantly.

5 weeks would be .. long ;), let’s hope the best *fingers crossed*. Thanks for the info!

  2. Webmilio says:

YAY ! Good luck on your software course and exams =D.
So, if I understand well, the SMP version for 1.7.3 isn’t coming out ? And it’s the 1.8 instead ?

O well. I can play 1.8 without IC and BC, but it’s kinda empty…

Still, as I said, Good luck on your course ! Try to forget about IC during your exam, etc.

    P.S.: FIRST !

    • Alblaka says:

First 1.7.3 SMP, then 1.8 (with SMP as well)

      • Webmilio says:

        Thank GOD ! O wait. what. O well I’m confused. So you got a team working on the 1.7.3 ?! I think that’s it…

        • Jaxuhe says:

It appears you forgot that the currently available 1.8 is a LEAKED PRE-RELEASE and is likely to look (code-wise) like the actual 1.8 update about as much as 1.7.3 is (i.e. not really).
Moving the mod to the pre-release not only forces you to work with a horribly broken version, but STILL means you have to rewrite half the code for the Adventure Update, since porting a mod is hardly straightforward.
Basically: 1.7.3 is a safer bet for current development and doesn’t waste the team’s time.

  3. Max-o-l says:

    Indeed, good luck Alblaka ๐Ÿ™‚

I find it funny that some people really think their moaning about updating actually works xD. (better said, sometimes when reading those kind of comments makes me facepalm :/)

Anyhoo, best of luck to you ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Alblaka says:

I didn’t exactly do this because of people asking me for updates, but rather to have a clear reason to ban/spammark all ones asking in future :3

  4. Nerox says:

Yeah, good luck with your exam. But since you seem to be a genius, you’ll rock it anyway, haha.
Also, I’ts awesome to hear that we’ve got a team for ICยฒ, although I haven’t seen anyone of them posting something on the blog yet, lol. <:

    • Alblaka says:

Because they don’t got the admin access for the blog ^^

    • Ithkul says:

Geniuses have to study hard too. You dont automatically pass although you are smart, but being smart makes the prossess easier.

Having said that, seeing my grades would either prove than im stupid or lazy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway best of luck Alb ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Michael says:

    Glad to hear it.
Now that I’ve had a chance to spend some quality time with IC2, I’d like to take a moment to compliment you on the wonderful job you’ve done balancing everything. In IC1, I quickly amassed way too much copper, tin, and redstone and was always wanting more iron. Now, I feel like every ore is significant, especially until you have a full on factory going. The only problem I now have is that coal is useless as a fuel, since it’s dust form is so much more useful for everything else. I feel like there should be some advantage to burning it instead of saving it and using charcoal. Could it be made to do more in an iron furnace perhaps?

    • Webmilio says:

I really agree wuth the fact that iron is quite rare. BUT ! You didn’t saw 1.8 and their stronghold, as it seems that the miners didn’t take iron. In 1 hour, if I didn’t use any iron, I would have gotten 4 stacks of it.

  6. diploa says:

Any chance you can tell me which line I would have to change to increase copper cables transmission length from 4 to 100?

  7. Andrew says:

Do good Alblaka we (or alot of us) believe you’ll do awsome and actually it’s true forget about IC2 for now *Peace* ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Doomcat says:

Aww, well, good luck with your courses ๐Ÿ™‚

Not to be rude though, but supposedly Notch is going to release modding API with 1.8, so does that mean your going to have to change IC2 to work with it? i have no modding experiance so i would’nt know, sorry.

  9. John Ryan says:

From what i understood on the API for the most part this will not effect how it works with mods but will smooth the translation and MCP will have a much smaller task of only identifing changes instead of full deobjectication. So from what i understood The api will ease converstion not change how it is done. Either way 1.8 with such massive changes many of the base files will be effected with that said, how deobjectified will depend on how easy the API will make converstion. I can not even play minecraft without IC but i dont expect a silver bullet with the API launch, many mod developers are not betting on this changing the world only easing some early deobjectivacation issues.

    • TomyLobo says:

list of bullshit in your post:
      1. “MCP will have a much smaller task of only identifing changes”
The modding API alone will not make MCP’s job easier at all. They’ll still aim at full deobfuscation.
The change you are thinking of is the source release notch plans to do with 1.8 (and planned to do with 1.7, let’s see if he keeps word this time)
If he does release the source, MCP will probably die, since its only purpose would be to make the deobfuscated source available to people refusing to accept notch’s license

      2. deobjectication/deobjectivacation/deobjectified
      it’s “deobfuscation” -_-

  10. Zarrab says:

Of course the guys will strangle me if I bring them news of SMP still being unavailable, but I think it’s totally reasonable, otherwise they’ll bug me about bugs. And not to port to 1.8 immediately after release, and wait until 1.8_03 ๐Ÿ˜‰ or so is fine as well, all good decisions overall.

  11. artist says:

Yay, every IC2 news is good news! No real ETA but maybe 5 weeks? Pah, thats nothing to play IC2 in SMP related to the age of the universe!
Keep up the good work, team, and good luck for the exam, Alblaka!

  12. James says:

Frankly I’m enjoying Ic2 as its my first time jumping into the mod, and I don’t really care it another update doesn’t come till they’ve released 2.0! I’m using millenaire as well and they friggen destroyed my electric infrastructure while building a MOAT so now I’m gonna go design a new 5 tier nuclear reactor.

  13. Nerox says:

Hey, the final 1.8 update just got released… Let’s wait till it hits 1.8.5_2 and start updatin’ teh mods. <:

  14. Union says:

So are you personally going to do the stable 1.8 conversion yourself, or is the IC team able to handle this as will while you are away with studies?

  15. Rojikku says:

1.8.1 is out now ๐Ÿ˜€ xD good thing you didn’t update yet? I dunno what else is coming.

  16. t-master says:

Is it me or does this time data just not sum up?
As far as I remember my computer science courses in constance also start in early October and till then it’s just about 3 weeks (and not 3 weeks + 1 month) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, have fun with your courses ๐Ÿ˜€

  17. Webmilio says:

Hi ! I know how to program mods, etc., and I really wanna make a IC2 addon.
The problem is, I don’t know how to get the base of it (API, source or whatever).
    Can anyone help ?!

  18. Jamie says:

Is your RSS feed working? I’ve been subscribed to https://www.industrial-craft.net/?feed=rss2 as the right-hand link links to, but the last one my RSS reader has is the Teaser Video update, and it doesn’t seem to be able to update any more.

  19. K01 says:

and where are the other developers? ;/ 5 weeks – extremely bad timing.

  20. Andrew says:

I love this mod it’s awsome. Thats all I can Say right now it’s Monday Morning so i have scool here in California ๐Ÿ™‚ By the WAY 1.8.1 is out

  21. Patrick246 says:

Can someone send me the Beta 1.7.3 Modloader? I want to play IndustrialCraft, but I can’t get the 1.7.3 Modloader anymore :(. If you have it, send it to patricksilashahn (@) gmx (.) net, please.

    • Alblaka says:

Risugami keeps an public archive of all older versions, just check his post.

      • Patrick246 says:

        ok, I’ve found it ๐Ÿ˜€
Can I run the 1.7.3 version with 1.7.2 because I have only a backup from 1.7.2. And I think there is no public archive of older mc versions ๐Ÿ˜€

        • Alblaka says:

Check the web for MCNostalgie. It’s a tool which can turn the current version into older ones. I don’t know whether it’s updated to 1.8 yet, though.

  22. Klopero says:

Well good thing you guys didnt updated it yet cuz 1.9 is at sight.

  23. Rojikku says:

o.o epic fail. 1.10 is 1.1 xD we are going to go BACKWARDS in release versions? decimal fail. but whatever xD

  24. Shiding says:

Of course you’ve been getting questions alot, but you might get less if you “blog” a bit more, I mean i’m getting somewhat impatient, but its much more worth than the adventure update, but if you blog a bit, just about 10 lines of text would help making me and some others think you’re working on it, aaaaand it makes me less impatient :3
